제가 소개하고 싶은 음악은 세계 최고의 아카펠라 그룹
The real group(더 리얼 그룹)의 노래 <Words>입니다.
리얼 그룹은 1984년 스웨덴 스톡홀름의 왕립 음악학원에서 결성되어
1987년 데뷔 이후 현재까지 왕성하게 활동하고 있는
명실공히 세계 최고의 아카펠라 그룹입니다.
대표곡으로는 <small talk>, <chili con carne> 등이 있고
외국은 물론 국내에서도 광고나 TV 프로그램의 배경 음악으로 다수 사용된 바 있어서
아마 음악을 들으시면 익숙하다, 친근하다는 생각이 드실 겁니다.
한국에 리얼 그룹을 사랑하는 팬이 많아서 내한공연도 수차례 가진 바 있고
PSY의 <강남 스타일>을 아카펠라로 공연한 적도 있습니다 ^^
리얼 그룹의 수많은 명곡 중에서도 제가 소개하고 싶은 곡은
앨범 <In the middle of life>의 수록곡 <Words>입니다.
저는 고등학교 때 리얼 그룹의 음반을 통해 이 곡을 알게 되었습니다.
그 때는 그저 곡이 멋지다, 목소리가 좋다, 분위기가 매혹적이다 이런 생각밖에 안 했는데
나중에 가사를 보고 말과 언어의 기능과 역할, 소중함, 힘에 관해 노래한,
근래에 보기 드문 철학적인 노래라는 걸 알게 되었습니다.
2017년 7월 26일 JTBC 뉴스룸 엔딩곡으로도 사용된 바 있다고 하네요.
